Pleased to make my first of three addresses in total thus far to the Human Rights Council at the United Nations Office at Geneva as a representative of the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists (IJL). This organization is keen to notably, advance human rights, prevent war crimes and combat racism. Protecting and advocating on behalf of vulnerable peoples, especially through diplomatic channels, is part of the reason I pursued a legal career. I’m grateful to be able to exercise my legal and communication skills by assisting in this effort.
In this statement, the IJL made a direct appeal to the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Ms. Catalina Devandas Aguilar of Costa Rica, to monitor and investigate whether 3 civilians are alive and receiving proper medical treatment given their mental health conditions. Without information about the status and conditions of the disappeared persons, there is a grave concern to their Right to Life under International Human Rights Conventions.
