If you have been following my blog for a while, you will have seen my elephant-related posts and tags: here, here, here. My affinity for elephants dates back to when I was a child. These gentle giants stick together, and they do not disturb other animals, unless they provoked. They are also incredibly intelligent and empathetic. Whats more, they are also herbivores (go Vegans lol).
When I discovered that our current Presidential administration was considering repealing the ban on elephant trophy hunting imports, I was not in my usual good spirits. Elephant parts belong on an elephant. Not on our walls as a hunting trophy, not on our wrists as ivory bracelets and not on our plates as a “delicacy.” If you feel strongly about this issue and you want to help, please sign The Humane Society of the United States petition here.
One Twitter user wrote “The fact that Trump has lifted President Obama’s ban on elephant trophies being imported into the country is a devastating blow to the survival of these beautiful animals. It’s savage and pointless. It breaks my heart.”
