For me, being a Vegan is just one of my contributions toward achieving global non-violence. Since I have started writing about my journey, I have chosen to focus on the intrinsic benefits of this lifestyle and diet change because it seems to be more convincing to people. With that being said, it is also critical to explore “Carnism,” a concept proposed my Melanie Joy, which investigates the invisible belief system that conditions people to eat certain animals depending on the culture. For example, cows are factory farmed in some parts of the world, but worshiped in others. In the end though, eating animals is not a necessity, but many people do not realize that they have a choice in deciding to eat animals, which are typically killed through violent means. Fortunately, while Carnism seems to be embedded in our global societies, Veganism is on the rise.
