In September 2016, I posted about the Knot on my Planet initiative, which seeks to protect the elephant population. As an update, China just announced an ivory ban by the end of 2017! The aggressive persecution of elephants throughout the world for their ivory tusks has led to a rapid reduction in the size of the elephant population. One tusk can fetch as much as $1,100 on the black market. China receives about 70% of the world’s ivory- making it one of the biggest markets in the world. This legislation is a huge feat for elephant advocates. Let’s keep this initiative going in other countries!
